You know, there is something very, very exciting about seeing your name prominently on the cover of a book. Yes, I had a chapter in The Complete Guide to Writing Fantasy, and yes, my name was on the cover. But it was just one of many, grouped in with the other authors who had contributed chapters. Not that I begrudged Tom and Darin their rightful place above us – they had worked hard to get “The Guide” together and on the shelf.

This time, though, it’s MY name up on top (and Tee’s, but he toots his horn on his own website, so this is my chance) and I couldn’t be prouder. We’ve taken the great start that is “The Guide” and gone to the next level.

The Fantasy Writer’s Companion assumes that you, the writer, knows how to write your novel. You don’t need help in the basics – what you need is that extra oomph to take your story and make it that much better. The chapters in “Companion” range from how to incorporate horror, romance or mystery into your fantasy to how to self-edit the story after you’ve completed it. And we’ve upped the ante on the authors too: not just your’s truly, but Campbell and Compton Crook winner Wen Spencer, 2003 EPPIE Award Winner Jeanine Berry, 2002 EPPIE Nominated Tony Ruggiero and 1999 Blue Boa Award Winner Kim Headlee, to name a few. There are a couple of new authors making their debut as well, and we’ve got a great artist, Anne Moya, not to mention Holly Lisle doing the introduction!

If you can’t tell, I’m really excited about this book. Tee and I are both very, very impressed with the quality of what we’ve seen, and I think you will be, too.
